Testing & Assessment

The Evaluation Process

An academic evaluation of a student averages approximately 20 hours+. This begins with the initial consultation, an appointment in person or by phone, which explores the student’s academic challenges, strengths and weaknesses. At this time, the evaluator proposes a range of assessments/tests to be performed to measure the areas of concern.

Next, an appointment is scheduled for direct administration of the assessments/evaluations, which can range from 3-5 hours. This direct time spent with the student varies based on the number of tests performed and the student’s ability and comfort level to perform in this setting. If necessary, testing may occur over a number of visits to accommodate the student’s need.

The evaluator may also request an in-school observation for further knowledge of the child.

In most cases, the evaluator is able to give preliminary scores within 5-7 days of the final visit. The evaluator then scores, interprets and evaluates the findings and compiles the information into a written report within 6-8 weeks.

The report will list the assessments/evaluations used for assessment, scores in understandable terms and recommendations for intervention and remediation. An appointment is then scheduled, with the parents and/or student, to further discuss the findings and recommendations reported.
