"A child's success in school - and in life - is dependent upon his ability to read. That's why it is so discouraging that nearly 69 percent of America's fourth graders can't read at a proficient level. Thankfully, the National Reading Panel has delivered the knowledge and the tools we have been lacking."

CASE STUDIES

Results from Recent Studies Conducted

  1. Two different studies conducted in the Brownsville Independent School District in Brownsville, Texas demonstrate the efficacy of Language Enrichment instruction. One study shows students who received Language Enrichment instruction in second grade were more proficient on the state-mandated third-grade reading test than students who did not receive the same instruction in second grade.

A second study shows that fifth-graders who have Language Enrichment in second grade made greater gains on a standardized achievement test than students who did not receive this instruction in second grade.

Together, these studies demonstrate that:

  • Early Language Enrichment instruction significantly enhanced reading comprehension by the third grade.
  • The effect of early Language Enrichment instruction persists to fifth grade.
  • Effects were even more pronounced at the fifth grade level than at the third grade level.

In short, Language Enrichment instruction provides strong foundational skills that benefit the acquisition of higher level literacy skills. Visit the Longitudinal, District-wide Study of Language Enrichment to review these findings in more detail.

Multisensory Teaching Case Study

McKenzie came to Multisensory Teaching when her first grade teacher noticed she was having difficulty processing information. She was unable to read simple readers, could not recall simple sight words and her print was difficult to decipher. She was quickly falling behind her peers and was aware of her difficulties. The classroom teacher recommended intervention. To find out how Multisensory Teaching made a difference for McKenzie, read her case study.
